Window previews on Mac: choose the browser, editor or Finder window you need

InfyniDock window previews help you identify a particular open window before activating it. This is useful when several windows share the same application icon: two browser projects, separate Finder locations, or an editor window for each codebase.

Recognize the work before switching

Imagine you have a browser window for documentation and another for a customer dashboard. The browser icon alone does not tell you which one you will reach. A window preview adds visual context, while a window title can distinguish similar-looking pages.

Move to the relevant entry in InfyniDock, inspect the available previews and select the window that matches your task. The aim is to make the destination clear before you click. The same principle applies to editor projects and Finder windows.

For applications with many similar views, keep document or project names meaningful. A preview and a useful title together are easier to recognize than several visually identical blank windows.

A simple first check

1. Open two ordinary windows in an application you use regularly.
2. Complete InfyniDock's permission setup.
3. Look at the application or window entries in the Dock and reveal their previews.
4. Select one window, then repeat with the other.
5. Try the same task through FloatDock or Notch Dock if that access style suits you better.

Start on one desktop before testing a larger setup across displays or Spaces. This gives you a clear baseline if a specific application behaves differently.

Permissions and missing previews

Accessibility permission allows InfyniDock to activate and manage windows. Screen Recording permission enables window previews. Review the permissions requested by the setup guide if the app is visible but a preview is missing.

A missing thumbnail does not necessarily mean your document has closed. Check whether the application is still running and whether the window is available, then inspect its permission state. Protected content or application-specific window behavior can limit what a third-party switcher can display. Do not expect every video surface, popover or transient panel to behave like a standard document window.

How previews fit with other features

Folders organize application access. Profiles organize Dock arrangements. Previews help answer the immediate question: “Which of these open windows do I want?” FloatDock brings this choice to a shortcut-driven selector; Notch Dock places a visual tray near the top of the screen.

If the real task is arranging two windows side by side, use the relevant layout controls or workspace tools. Recognizing a window and resizing it are separate actions.

Can I use previews across Spaces?
