InfyniDock Launchpad: browse, search and organize your Mac apps

InfyniDock includes a Launchpad for finding and opening installed applications. Its full-screen app grid, search, pages and folders provide a visual launch surface alongside the Dock and window switchers.

Launch an app or return to a window?

These are different starting points. If an application is not open and you remember its name, Launchpad search is a useful entry. If the application already has several windows and you need a particular document, window previews or FloatDock are more relevant.

For example, use Launchpad to find an image editor you open occasionally. After that editor has several documents open, use its window entries and previews to return to the document you need. This keeps application discovery separate from window selection.

Build a grid you can recognize

1. Open InfyniDock's Launchpad from its Dock entry or configured shortcut.
2. Search by application name when you know what you want.
3. Browse the grid when you recognize the icon more readily than the name.
4. Reorder apps and organize related entries into folders.
5. Keep the first page focused on apps you actually launch regularly.

Launchpad supports moving entries between pages. You do not need to compress every installed application onto the first page. A small predictable layout is easier to learn than a tightly packed catalog.

Chinese-named apps can also benefit from the Launchpad search matcher's pinyin support. Test the names you actually use, rather than assuming every possible abbreviation will match identically.

Importing a previous native Launchpad layout

InfyniDock can import app ordering and folders from an available native macOS Launchpad database. This requires a Mac that still has usable data from the built-in Launchpad. It is not a cloud download of a layout from another computer.

The importer matches entries to installed applications. If an old app is no longer installed, it cannot appear as a working launch target simply because it was present in the old database. If no suitable database is found, organize the grid manually instead.

Review an import before spending time customizing its result. The reset action removes custom ordering and user-created folders and returns to default grouping; use it only when you want to start over.

Dock folders and Launchpad folders

Both help organize app access, but they occupy different surfaces. Dock folders keep a selected set of tools close to everyday work. Launchpad folders organize the larger app grid. Treat each layout as its own organization task unless the app explicitly offers a transfer operation.

Common questions

Does Launchpad install applications?

This guide concerns browsing and launching installed apps. A grid entry is not an app-store installation process.

Will importing restore missing apps or documents?

No. Import concerns layout and matched installed apps. It does not restore deleted software, document contents or an entire Mac backup.

Should I use search or folders?

Use search for a name you remember, and folders for a collection you recognize by purpose. You can use both without building a complicated classification system.
