Mini Window on Mac: keep any window live in a floating panel

How InfyniDock Mini Window keeps a build, an AI agent, a game, or a chat visible over your work and full-screen apps, and how to open, adjust, and close it.

InfyniDock Team · Updated

Mini Window keeps one Mac window visible while you work somewhere else. It shrinks the window into a small, live panel that floats above your other windows, including full-screen apps. Click the panel and the full window comes back, right where you left it.

See Mini Window in action.

When it helps

Some windows only matter at one moment: a coding agent finishing a refactor, a build turning green, a long export, a live match, a group chat waiting for your reply. Without a mini window you either leave them covering your work or keep switching back to check. A mini window lets you glance instead of switch.

Open a mini window

There are three ways, and they all do the same thing:

  • Shortcut. Press Control-Option-M while the window is focused. It shrinks into a mini window and you return to what you were doing. You can change the shortcut in Settings → Shortcuts.
  • Dock preview. Hover over a window in the Dock and click the mini window button in its preview.
  • Right-click. Right-click the window in the Dock and choose Enter Mini Window.

Go back and forth

Click the mini window to return to the original window. The mini window hides while that window is active and reappears when you switch away, so you can move between them freely. Close the mini window, or press the shortcut again, to turn it off.

Watch something full screen

Put a movie or a presentation in full screen, then open a mini window for the task you are waiting on. The panel stays on top of the full-screen app, so you can see both. When the task is done, click the panel to go back to its full window.

Adjust it

Drag the panel anywhere and pull its corner to resize it. By default it sits at 85% opacity, so it stays out of the way, and it sharpens to full opacity when you hover. The options button on the panel offers Small, Medium, or Large; 65%, 85%, or fully opaque; and Low Power or Smooth.

You can keep up to three mini windows at once, for example a build, a game, and a chat.

How it stays light

Low Power mode refreshes at 15 frames per second and is the default; Smooth mode uses 30. Mini Window captures only what the small panel needs, not the whole original window. If you step away, it slows to one frame per second after five minutes without input and pauses after fifteen. It also pauses while the original window is in front of you, and stops when you close the panel or your Mac or display sleeps.

Requirements

Mini Window is part of InfyniDock 2.22.4 and later, on macOS 13 or later. It uses the same Screen Recording permission InfyniDock already uses for live window previews. If you already have InfyniDock, choose Check for Updates in the app.
