Semi Hide: keep your Mac Dock reachable while giving work more space

Semi Hide in InfyniDock keeps part of the Dock visible at the screen edge and expands it when the pointer moves over it. It gives you a visible place to return to while reducing how much of the Dock stays in view during work.

Why keep a small part visible?

On a laptop, an editor, reference page and chat window already compete for room. A fully visible Dock can occupy an area you would rather use for content. Hiding the Dock entirely makes the access point less obvious. Semi Hide lets you retain a small visual cue at the edge.

The useful result is personal: enough of the Dock remains visible that you can find it comfortably, while the expanded view appears when you intend to use it. There is no single visibility setting that fits every display or pointer habit.

Set up a comfortable edge target

1. Find Semi-Hide Mode in InfyniDock's Dock behavior settings.
2. Enable it for the Dock setup you use.
3. Move the pointer onto the remaining visible part and check that it expands.
4. Adjust Visible Ratio until the resting Dock is easy to locate.
5. Adjust Semi-Hide Opacity if the resting Dock feels too prominent or too difficult to see.

Change one setting at a time. Try the result while editing, scrolling and selecting text near that edge, rather than judging only from a still screenshot. If you regularly trigger the Dock by accident, reconsider the placement and how you approach that screen edge.

Visible ratio and opacity do different jobs

Visible ratio changes how much of the Dock remains exposed. Opacity changes how transparent it appears in the semi-hidden state. Making the Dock faint is not the same as making its visible portion smaller.

A very subtle setup can look clean but be harder to reacquire. Start with an obvious cue, then reduce it until you reach a comfortable balance. If you use several displays, check the behavior on the display where you actually work; its edge and pointer travel may feel different from the laptop screen.

When another access style fits better

Semi Hide suits people who prefer a persistent pointer target. FloatDock is useful when your hands are already on the keyboard. Notch Dock suits a top-of-screen tray. You can choose an access style based on the task rather than assuming one mode must handle every interaction.

Quick Peek, automatic hiding and Semi Hide have different trigger behavior. The app treats Quick Peek as mutually exclusive with auto-hide and semi-hide settings, so check the active mode if the Dock does not behave as expected.

Common questions

Does Semi Hide close or minimize my apps?

Semi Hide describes the visibility of InfyniDock itself. It is not an instruction to close your applications or minimize all their windows.

Is lower opacity always better?

No. A cue you cannot find is less useful. Choose a setting you can locate easily against your normal wallpaper and windows.
